About these terms
These terms apply to the Monero Wallet · Standalone browser extension (“Monero Wallet”, version 2.3.0) and to this website, both published by the Monero Wallet Standalone project and its contributors (“we”, “us”). By installing or using Monero Wallet, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.
Monero Wallet is an independent project. It is not an official Monero release, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Monero Project. “Monero” refers to the open-source cryptocurrency developed by the Monero Project and its community.

License and no warranty
Monero Wallet is released under the MIT license. You may use, copy, modify and distribute it under that license. The full text is included with the extension and in the source code (monero-wallet-source.zip).
The license includes this disclaimer:

In plain words: we work carefully, but we do not promise that Monero Wallet is free of bugs, always available or suitable for any particular purpose. The same applies to the information on this website. The software has not been independently audited.
Self-custody: you hold the keys
Monero Wallet is non-custodial. Your keys are created and stored on your device, and payments are signed there. We never hold, receive or control your funds, keys, recovery phrase or password. We cannot freeze, reverse, recover or move funds on your behalf.
It also means we cannot help you regain access. There is no password reset and no account recovery. Access depends entirely on your 25-word recovery phrase, or on an encrypted backup together with its password.
Your responsibilities
- Write down your 25-word recovery phrase, keep it offline and never share it. Anyone who has the phrase can spend your funds.
- Choose a strong password and keep an encrypted backup. Removing the extension or clearing its browser data can erase saved wallets.
- Before you confirm a payment, check the full recipient address, the amount and the fee on the review screen.
- Keep your device, operating system and browser secure and up to date, and do not install extensions you do not trust.
- Try the wallet on stagenet first, and use small amounts until you are comfortable with it.
- Follow the laws and regulations that apply to you, including tax rules in your country.
Transactions are irreversible
Monero payments are final. Once a transaction has been broadcast to the network, neither we nor anyone else can cancel or reverse it. Funds sent to a wrong or mistyped address are almost certainly lost.
Monero Wallet tries to help you avoid mistakes. It checks addresses as you type, signs the payment locally and shows the full address, amount, fee and transaction ID for review. It never retries an uncertain broadcast automatically. These safeguards reduce risk; they do not remove it.
Network fees go to Monero miners. We do not charge any fee.
Third-party nodes and websites
To synchronize and send, Monero Wallet connects to a Monero node that you select: a public node from the built-in list, or a node you add yourself. Public nodes are run by independent third parties. We do not control them and cannot guarantee their availability, accuracy or conduct. A node can see your IP address and when you connect, but not your keys or balances.

Privacy
Monero Wallet keeps your wallet data on your device, and we do not collect or receive it. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what is stored where, and what a node can and cannot see.
Not financial advice
Nothing in Monero Wallet or on this website is financial, investment, legal or tax advice. The value of cryptocurrencies can change quickly, and you use Monero at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Monero Wallet Standalone project and its contributors are not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of, or the inability to use, Monero Wallet or this website. This includes, for example, lost or stolen funds, lost keys or passwords, transactions sent to wrong addresses, errors or downtime of third-party nodes, and bugs in the software.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties or liabilities to be excluded. Where that is the case, these exclusions apply only as far as the law allows.
Changes to the software
We may change or remove features, and we may stop publishing updates at any time. We have no obligation to provide support. Because Monero Wallet is open source, you can always keep using, reviewing and building it yourself.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, the effective date on this page changes and the version history below describes what changed. If you continue to use Monero Wallet after an update, you accept the updated terms.
